Pharmaceutical Blender

A blender is a very important equipment in the pharmaceutical industry.

These machines are extensively used in the pharmaceutical industry to granulate and blend medicated powders.

What is different between  pharmaceutical blender and mixer?

Blender breaks down solid foods or medicines into smaller pieces.

This process often produces a powder or a liquid.  While Mixers, combine multiple ingredients into a single substance.

What are the types of pharmaceutical blender ?

There are four type of pharmaceutical Blenders .

1 - octagonal blender with cylindrical container
2- mass mixer
3- V type blender
4- Double con blender

 Octagonal blender:

Octagonal Blender

It is very efficient and equally lubricates the dry granules.

It consist of the octagonal shape body, rectangular cylinder portion and top and bottom polygonal frustum.

It is use for gentle blending of granules or powder. Power consumption is lower as compared to other blender.

2/3 volume of cone is used. It gives best result due to the slow speed and their octagonal shape.

Suitable for crystalline and granular type material.

Mass mixer:

It is used for dry or lump materials especially for table granulation.

It has Mixing stirrer in the horizontal position. Blades like blades are used.

Blades are placed in horizontal position and has single speed rotation. most applicable for sticky substances mixing.

V type blender :

V shape Blender

It is most preferred in pharmaceutical  and fine industries.

It consists of "V" type vessel with right and left legs with batch. Dry mixing in power form.

It is easy for loading and unloading. Also simple to clean.

Double cone blender :

Double Cone blender

As from name it is clear it has two cone one from top and other form bottom.

It is used for dry power and granulates uniformity. 2/3 is filled for proper mixing.

Used for heavy products. Deflector plated are also used for proper mixing.

And operated with the timer for stop the blender.

Step involved for calculation of blender capacity.

Capacity of blender:

1- First fill the blender with brain full water and water is measured in litter to know the exact volume of blender.

2- Measure the bulk density of given  pharmaceutical power.

(Bulk density is measured by dividing the given mass in gram by volume of cylinder)

3- Finally the capacity of Blender is measured by multiplying the volume of blender and bulk Density.

Maximum blender capacity:
Maximum capacity is the capacity of Blender over which it can't blend to the power.

it is 80% of blender capacity.

If blender capacity is 100 then , maximum capacity will be 80.

Minimum capacity of Blender:
It is minimum capacity , below which blender can't blend the power.

It is 40% of blender capacity.

If blander capacity is 100 ,then minimum capacity is 40.
